River otter (Lontra canadensis)
The otter is known as a great swimmer and fisherman of the waters it inhabits. The best swimmer out of all members of the weasel family you can find otters in streams, rivers and lakes. No fish is safe as all are hunted to fuel the otter on its journey. The waterproof fur like the minks, have been sought and impacted since the era of the fur trade. The Lakota used otter hides as braid wraps and the otter makes appearance in occasional stories holding an important role. The otter has mastered the world of water.
