Black Bears are an important part of the Northwoods ecosystem. Some of the last bears in the Plains and Minnesota they have been a target of hunters like the Grizzly Bear. Black bears harvest and eat a lot of fresh food. They are smart and have an outstanding sense of smell to locate foods miles away. Black Bears will generally leave people and pets alone.
