Cardinalidae
Cardinal Family
The Cardinal family includes Cardinals, buntings and dickcissel. This family of birds is generally medium in size and can be easily identified by coloring in the field. The males are often bright showing off reds, blues and yellows while the females are lighter colored to blend in with their environments. Members of the Cardinalidae family will eat fruits, but they also have strong beaks to crack open seeds and tougher food. These species live on the edges of woodlands. They can also be spotted out in the grasslands where the vocal dickcissel makes its home and calls through the day.
